You do not really need the box unless you are using the tv for something else.   a simple RCA to F adapter works.

Thanks, Art, I'll give that a try.

Meanwhile, I believe I've tracked down my video quality problem that that
little TV/computer switch thing that it comes with.  A slight bump on the
switch means that the picture goes all wonky, and having an even passable
picture requires it in a very specific position.

The box is riveted shut, though, so I can't just open it up to clean it very
easily.  I suspect some dirty contacts maybe?  Does anybody have ideas on
dealing with that switch box?  Is a box like that made for any other purpose
still?
