All:
Well I finally got off my butt and made room for a CoCo 3!
The system is now set up and and I ran the "SIMPLE/PRO"
test from the "Color Computer Disk System" manual and was
able to save and load the program (after running "NEW" of
course)
I have yet to check the RAM on the CoCo 3, but the label
says it's 128K. The disk controller is a JMR and it works
with the one drive I connected it too. I'm not sure if
there is any configuration issues that will prevent me
from connecting other drives I have, but it shouldn't hurt
to try. I've adopted quite a few systems in the past, so
I should be able to get more than one drive running. (Is
a 3.5" drive pretty much a slam dunk to install in an
existing 5.25" case?) (I also have several types of
controllers, which is the best? JMR, Sardis DMC, or
Tandy?)
I have the PROM from Mark Marlett to upgrade one of my
MPI's and once I check the part number, I'll ask the list
for more details. I also have memory expansion boards and
some neat Disto stuff, so I'm going to have lots of fun.
I really didn't think I'd get this excited about running
an older system again, but it takes me back about 20 years
and it was actually fun to save and load a simple Basic
program.
Now on to better things. I plan to start re-learning
Assembly and I even dug out the 6809 traner from CIE that
I got and never used. I have both the EDTASM+ Cart and
Disk set, plus several good books and Dennis' tapes and
CD, so I am set. Maybe I can rejuvnate these old brain
cells :)
Well that's enough rambling for now. I'm glad to finally
be a "active" CoCo-nut again!
BTW, thanks to all of you for answering my questions and
for your advice and support. I hope that once I get back
up to speed, I can contribute to this community. Cheers!
