For the iron, check out the Hakko FX-8888D. Should run you about $100 but absolutely worth it. I've never seen a job it can't handle, and the temp bounces back so quick I never even have to think about it.

Can't really comment on the desoldering and magnification, as I'll be watching this thread for recommendations there myself. I've seen a lot of great systems, but for hobby use I'm just not ready to spend thousands on it. So for now I'm using desoldering braid and a cheap solder sucker, and my reading glasses. Gets me by. 🙂 Best of luck to you.
