In addition I have hex edited $1938 - $1940 of the HDBBLA.rom to be $5A0000 to match the OS9 partition offset of then empty.img.
But still no go.
I have also tried 2 different hdbbla's 1.3 & 1.1D 4-N-1

I took the empty.vhd from the archive and renamed it to empty.img.
I inserted it into the IDE Master and hard reset, but it still doesn't find a LBA hard drive.
I then entered:
Drive on
Dskini 0
?io error.
So the empty vhd in the archive doesn't seem right!
I read the HDBDos manual regarding the offset but this is for OS-9 partitions.
At the moment I would be happy if it was working with floppies.

You need to make your own image. It uses the standard os9/rsdos partition scheme just like hdbdos for dw and rgbdos. You'll have to set the offsets as described in the hdbdos manual. You just make a standard vhd then rename it to ".img".
