Hi Joe,
To use a couple of packs on a Y cable be sure to know what memory addresses each pak responds to. If both devices use the same address, then they cannot be used on a Y cable and a MPI is definitely required. I believe there are memory maps floating around that specify what paks use which memory locations. The following link to my dropbox called the "Coco Hardware Address.pdf" is one that I have on hand.

Yeah I'm really looking for a small footprint kind of solution so I can use my CoCoSDC alongside the modem or rs232 pak. Otherwise I'd just try to find a full fledged MPI.

I guess I was really thinking something very simple mainly so I could use 1 additional slot. Like an SDC along with a real floppy, or sound cart, or RS-232, etc.
I think someone else is working on a new MPI (Retro Innovations?) so I didn’t really want to get into that at the moment. Buffering and some DC power from a wall-wart is easy enough though. I'll see what I can come up with.
