Or, you can use eSnipe and kill two birds with one stone:

- Cancel a bid any time you like with no hassles

- Improve your win ratio by not advertising your interest to other
   parties.

I haven't bid directly to eBay in over five years.  Not sure why anyone 
would with alternatives like eSnipe.
