[Coco] New video from Cloud-9!

Bill,
If you want to have more than 512k, that will have to come from the SB board or Disto's upgrades.
Now you could hack the TRAID, make your own DAT board. Tony D. did that many years ago...
Regards,
Mark

Mark, you are probably right. It was most likely a cap. I just remember that 25 years ago I had to cut something :-) (I'm not a HW techie)
It was a real painless upgrade considering I once had one of those 8 chip 16k Coco 2s that brought fear into the hearts of people like Marty Goodman when discussing 64k upgrades for Coco 2s. I never did upgrade it. I bought a 64k machine instead :-)
By the way, AWSOME job on the 512k upgrade. This has been needed for all those 128k machines everyone is picking up on e-bay and yardsales.
I really do wish you would reconsider doing the 1-2meg upgrades. I know they're a pain. Mine has the Disto 1 megger and I would've hated to be the one installing that. Soldering directly to the 6809 makes me shiver.
Seems like there should be a way to create a "socket" for the 6809 something similar to "The Protector" that would allow you to run the needed lines to the CPU without doing the direct solder bit?
Probably not cost effective, but when is keeping up a 57 Chevy cost effective? :-)

Bill,
Not sure what resistor you are talking about. Doesn't make sense. Now if you are
talking a cap then that is true with C-9 product as well.
The resistor are series resistors on the GIME. So if you disconnect it....You
are done, the CoCo will never boot. C65 and C66 caps are terrible in a digital
design. Not sure why there ever was a cap on RAS. Maybe a compliance issue with
the FCC?? In any case adding analog components to a digital circuit is not
recommended, IMHO. There are reasons for what was done. The SRAM doesn't need
them. Slowing(ramping) the RAS clock edge to the 200+MHZ Altera CPLD...it just
doesn't like it.
We have noted a side effect of the TRIAD, since there is not a .5amp power drain
on the power supply. If you turn the coco on / off, like you have for 30 years
now...You will see an OK. On the screen...... :) CTL/ALT RESET works better.....
There is just not enough bleed on the CoCo's PS anymore to drain it. :)
Heck modify the ROMs to make it think it is a 128k machine. :) Maybe there is a
RAM poke. Don't know ATM.

Mark

With the old Performance Peripherals 512k upgrde, only one resistor is cut, the
old memory is pulled out (socketed) and the unit just plugs in. So going back to
128K would be a ,matter of pulling the unit, connecting that resistor and
replacing the memory chips. I have 2 of these units in old Cocos I hope to
revive one day

I think Luis is saying he'd like to have the ability to switch his 512K
CoCo 3 into a mode appropriate for testing software to see if it runs okay
on a 128K machine. Easier said than done, I suspect; better to have
somebody with a 128K CoCo test it.
