While I like to bash Bill, and am generally not a fan of M'Soft, I'm not
a fundamentalist.  M'Soft pays a lot of lip service to "innovation", but
IMHO their one and only truly great and original contribution to the
world of computing was ROM BASIC for the early 8-bit micros.  Almost
everything else they either bought or replicated.  Bill was reputedly a
pretty good programmer in his day.  Maybe we'd all be better off if he
went back to that.  What could Bill do if forced to sit in a hotel room
with no Internet connectivity for six months and write the core of an OS
(it could be expanded upon by others later) singlehandedly on a 200MHz
Pentium system?  I actually think he could come up with something
interesting, and possibly even worth running.  If M'Soft's next OS
booted from a flash memory in < 10 seconds on .5GHz hardware and cost <
$50 US, I'd even consider buying a copy.
