I use ded for that.

I don't consider it broken so much as... short sighted.  It was
created for CP/M machines which only track file-size by the number of
logical (128 byte) sectors used.

That said, I prefer ymodem or zmodem, because with those you don't
need to type in the filename twice. I'm lazy like that. ;-)
