Main issue is tap water has chlorine in it. Plus several other halogens like flourine. 
Hologens,  which chlorine is one, are very reactive with metals to form salt 
compounds on the PCB and is asking for dissaster over time. 

The best solution is to go to Walgreens and buy their 91% isopropol alchohol. 
Don't use 70%. Alcohol is one of the better cleaners of PCBs and contacts.
