Jim and all, I understand your concern and wish to help Diego. Writing a representative or congressman won't help anything -- I seriously doubt they would be very understanding at all. I know Diego is harmless and just wants to get ahead in life -- I don't blame him one bit. 

The facts are that he was over here on a tourist visa, with which he isn't even supposed to get a job. As he mentioned, there is supposed to be six months between applications for a tourist visa. The reason is to prevent someone from coming over as a tourist and getting a job, then going home for a short vacation and returning. 

Going to the CoCoFest certainly heightened his chances of getting caught because of the travel. It sounds like he knew the risks of over staying his visa. The gov't wouldn't have been out searching for him once the visa expired, but they would have "put the word out" for other law enforcement agencies to watch for him. Any kind of security check or traffic ticket (if he was driving) would have resulted in getting caught. 

About the only thing that can be done now is to help get his things sent back. Mary, do you have a PayPal account? If not you may want to set up a free account so people can donate that way. I'm willing to put some in the pot to help send his things back. 

I'm not being hard-hearted here, it's just the facts.
