Pardon. I had the gaphics tablet (x-pad), and I  don't recall using it with another interface.
Yes it did plug into the cartridge slot, most of the programes were written from it's book 
and the rest were created from scratch.
 CoCo-max had it's own cartidge and a standard joystic plugged into it ... :-)
