FWIW, I just fed a PDF of "119 Practical Programs for the TRS-80 (1982)(Tab
Books).pdf" downloaded from Ira's site into ABBYY 7.0 (it reads PDFs) and it
happily converted the book into text and images. It took about an hour to go
through and tweak the pages since it can't figure out that stuff printed
with the pen plotter should be treated as images but the results are very
good. So even PDFs may be OK although it would be better to have the text
layer there as well. Since the book was pretty clean the final size for this
was about 2.6 Mb and that was from a book that was almost 8 Mb to begin
with, so the text scanning has helped a lot to reduce the size which seems
odd but is helpful.

For me I'd accept PDFs only but I also prefer to have the text, esp. the
listings.
