Another thing to consider (in regards to Ira's workflow) is that Ira uses
grayscale to scan in B&W pages while I have determined (through many
tests) that a combination of 300ppi 24bit and 300ppi 1bit (B&W) scans
produce the best results for the production technique I am using.  The
300ppi1bit scans also have the advantage of smaller size which makes
sending files via the internet to vulunteers working on the OCR subproject
reasonable.
