Ira's work is excellent - I wouldn't argue that fact!  The way I am doing
things is fairly close to his instructions and I am happy to give credit
where credit is due!

That being said...   I find that I am happier with the results when
scanning at 300ppi, and some of the specific settings he uses (midtones,
etc) are a good starting place but not where I ended up after a few hours
of tweaking my scan profiles.

I also want to make sure that the same software is being used for each
aspect of the project (e.g. GIMP for post production), and I would prefer
that we stick with as much free software (as in beer) that we can to keep
costs for volunteers down.  I am not sure we will be able to get away with
that 100% but it's a goal of mine.
