Use color, grey scale or line art as appropriate for ABBYY. 300 dpi is fine
unless there is a lot of tiny text on the page which you want to search.

Whatever works as PDF will be fine. Adobe Reader is available for these:-
HP-UX
IBM AIX
Linux (.rpm)
Linux (.tar.gz)
Mac68K_.bin
Mac68K_.hqx
MacOS 10.2.2-10.2.7
MacOS 10.2.8-10.3
MacOS 7.5.3
MacOS 8.1-8.5
MacOS 8.6-9.0
MacOS 9.1-10.2.1
OS/2 Warp
Palm OS (Macintosh)
Palm OS (Windows)
Pocket PC
Sun Solaris SPARC
Symbian OS
Windows 2000
Windows 2000 SP1
Windows 2000 SP2
Windows 2000 SP3
Windows 2000 SP4
Windows 3.1
Windows 95
Windows 98
Windows 98SE
Windows ME
Windows NT
Windows XP
Also I note:-
Use Adobe Reader for Palm OS® to view PDF files on your Palm OS device.
Use Adobe Reader for Pocket PC to view PDF files on your Pocket PC device.
Use Adobe Reader for Symbian OST to view PDF files on your Nokia
Communicator 9500 devices.
Seems enough. Whatever it's faults, it's as multi platform as one is likely
to see.
