Mine's set to show everything. All the Mac files come in with names only,
no extensions -- unless I ask for them, or unless they're downloaded from a
website. If the folks who send them don't tell me what they are, I have to
open them in binary editors to read the opening info to determine what kind
of file they are, and then add the file extension by hand.

Extensions are present with downloaded files, maybe to assure that the web
server provides the right MIME type. But if you're sent a Mac attachment or
mount Mac media on a PC, there don't appear to be any file extensons. (The
little Mac fork files are sitting there, but not much use to me, anyway.)
