Actually, it's the other way around.  An incandescent light has too much
thermal inertia to have any noticeable flicker.  You *want* to use a
fluorescent light because they do have considerable brightness and color
variation at the 60Hz (or 50Hz) power line frequency - a natural strobe
light!  When you look at the strobe disk pattern under fluorescent light
with the motor running, you will see a yellow/blue "ghost" pattern slowly
rotating.  There should be a small tachometer adjustment potentiometer
somewhere that will let you "freeze" the pattern.  Do that and you're done.
