Well if we get USB storage working, why not just convert the disks to
floppy images on flash drive or 3.5" USB floppy drive, or USB hard
drive, and not hook up the 5.25"?
Just have to ask someone else for disk images, or once-in-a-while pull
out the 5.25" drive to transfer an image from a real disk.
Or you could put a slim 5.25" disk in a PC and use that for making
conversions to 3.5", flash, or hard disk.

There are USB cases for 5.25" devices, but all are for IDE or SATA devices. So a USB conversion interface would have to be made for 5.25" drives for backwards compatibility. Okay, maybe replacing the disk controller entirely isn't a good idea! But replacing the IDE controller is. It would make things much simpler! I know attaching a USB keyboard sounds great, but that might be a bit difficult to interface and wouldn't have as much appeal as disk and optical drives, especially if the type of drive didn't matter.
