How about "that's the way OS-9 has always done it?"  Right, years ago I was 
referring to YYMMDD as "OS9 format."  BTW, the US military and British use 
DDMMYY, which is probably why the French don't :-)

Yes -- most of us have a lot of files unchanged since the last millennium, 
and it would be nice if they sorted in the right order too.  Which YYYYMMDD will 
do.
