What hard-won lessons have you learned over the course of your  
career? Supporting anecdotes and war stories very welcome :)

Here's a couple to get the ball rolling:

* Never assume a newspaper would be willing to run an enigmatic  
classified ad. Even one that has written favorably about ARGs in the  
past.

* If they do take your order, never assume they will run it without  
making helpful "corrections," no matter how much you insist ahead of  
time it has to be exactly the way you made it.

* Don't count on them running it on the right day, either.
