[arg_discuss] New member: A short introduction

Greetings

I have just joined this mailing list, and I believe a wee introduction is in
order. I'm Andrea, and I work as a 2D artist at Digital Chocolate. Although
we don't deal with virtual reality at work, in my spare time, I'm very
fascinated by the concept and everything it entails.

My first experience with VR was back in the mid 90's when I tried
Activeworlds and The Palace for the first time. A natural continuation of
that has been playing many many MMOGs and running a business in Second Life.

In the late 90's - there was a VRML project called Helsinki Arena
2000<http://www.linturi.fi/HelsinkiArena2000/>,
which allowed web users to walk through a virtual version of Helsinki
online. I was hired to design a leisure activity
center<http://www.andrea.net/hideout/art/web_design/09.html>there and
our team worked on it for a year. Unfortunately it was never
integrated into the system even though we completed it and it turned out
pretty cool for it's time in history.
As for virtual reality *out* of the computer, I haven't had the pleasure to
experience anything as of yet. But the interest in there, and I'd like to
note that LARPing has me also intrigued. I feel that LARPing is vaguely
connected to all this.
