[Herb-students] memorization of formulas

I'm still wrestling with this. (five years after the licensure exam)
The only thing that I rely on is simply understand the herb groups and
their functions within a formula.
This should be how formulas are taught, so this may sound familiar, but
when I think about Bu Zhong Yi Qi Tang for lifting Spleen Qi, I know
that Huang Qi, Sheng Ma and Chai Hu all do the actual lifting. Other
herbs perform secondary functions... I break things up like that.
Just a thought.
