From sherill at sagworks.com Thu Jan 29 00:16:54 2009 From: sherill at sagworks.com (Sherill Anne Gross) Date: Thu, 29 Jan 2009 00:16:54 -0500 Subject: [Sagworks-art] sagworks blog - January 2009 update Message-ID: <4B20D6DE-29E5-46CF-B231-B7337F4C5B75@sagworks.com> Hope everyone is staying warm this winter and everyone is doing well. --News- I finally finished Pinup1. The final work is online for viewing. There is also a great detail shot which shows the effort that went into almost every part of the finished work. The final tally of pieces that went into the shag carpeting that makes up the background was 6,375. I made a slideshow of the work from start to finish if you're interested in viewing the progress of the work. I am happy to report that there are plans in the works for more pinups to be created. I also have created a second youtube video of me cutting out a signature. The video is under 2 minutes and shows how I create hand cut signatures. My first YouTube video of me working on a small section of the carpet is also still online. Due to an upcoming show at the Brentwood Arts Center, I set a January 15 for orders as a deadline for purchasers to take immediate possession of originals from the one-a-(week)day series. That date has passed but pieces can still be purchased, however I would need to hold onto them in order to display the whole series at my upcoming show. I would of course mark any purchased pieces "from the collection of xxxxxx" or something similar. If the show date gets postponed, I will push the deadline back or release works to their purchasers. Also if any owners of original works in the one-a-(week)day series would like to have their originals on display, please let me know. Your work would not be available for sale in the show--they would be marked as "from the collection of xxxxxx" or the like. Other than that I am in full on framing mode. I am making sure everything is framed to be ready for the show at the Brentwood Arts Center. I have made a lot of progress - as of now all of the originals that will be displayed are in frames and over half of the prints are matted. I plan to have everything in a frame within 2 weeks. --Upcoming Events-- This Friday (Jan. 30) from 6-8 pm is the reception for "Fluid Identity" at the Howard County Center for the Arts. I have 5 pieces from the Beauty Ritual series on display. The show runs though February 27. (more info) Snow date for the reception is February 6. I will be having an Open Studio this Sunday (Feb. 1) from 1-4pm in my studio in Greenbelt, MD. I, along with other artists in residence, will be in our studios and there will be an opportunity to make cool sculpture and see storyteller and puppeteer Carolyn Koerber presenting "Knee-High Stories: An African-American Fable."
