I have been using Papyrus under Windows 2000 with my research group, and we keep a "master copy" of Papyrus (aka "live Pap"), put in the modifications, and then post the current bb files on our office server. One exciting prospect is that I will be able to text extract Word files (which many of my students/colleagues insist on using) for them on the Mac without downsaving them to Word 6/95. (Yes, I know, one takes excitement where one can these days.) But---although import of bb files from version 7 has worked well, as best as I can tell, Mac Papyrus doesn't let me produce bb files. It looks like I'd have to make papx files, and then somehow figure out how to revise the journals, keywords, etc (including manually changing any foreign characters)? Is that really the case? This would NOT work well - too many steps for sometimes unsophisticated users. Do I really have to maintain another copy of Pap under virtual PC for modifications to the database? Oh, and hope all is going well with all of you, and you have a very happy holidays. Tasks like the repetitive change of foreign characters are easily done by using AppleScript. I use TexEdit Plus http://www.tex-edit.com/ to create AppleScripts which change text files. If you send a small .bb file I could maybe have a look into it and see how complicate this might be. By the way, the fate of Papyrus on the Mac seems to be sealed as well. With the begin of selling Intel processor Macs, the Classic environment isn't AFAIK any longer supported. There are different hopes for us Papyrus users. Maybe a software company is selling an emulator of the old classic Mac environment. The best solution would be, that someone is helping Papyrus into the modern world. Don't know how time-consuming an expensive that might be. I thought about finding an interested programmer who could continue Daves great work. But I fear that there won't be enough interested buyers to justify this step. And maybe in three or four years the competing applications have caught up with Papyrus' unique features...
