Can any one help with the connections of a weather radio to the NHRC-5 controller?

I have a Midland WR100 that I connected the external speaker to the auxiliary Audio input on the controller. This works fine when you turn the audio input on but not when placed in automatic. How do I pull the EXP1 to ground to sense when audio is present on the Aux Audio and transmit the broadcast?

It appears that the midland radio you mention has an accessory strobe
light for the hearing impaired...  It looks like it has a 3.5 mm plug on
it.  Look for the 18-STR.  You could probably use that output somehow,
perhaps with an opto-isolator.
