Friday night we will have a speaker discussing the recent war against Hamas in Gaza. On Saturday, we are privileged to have a Sefer Haftorah, on loan from the national Federation of Jewish Men's Club's. Kopel Burk, our Man of the Year will be chanting the haftorah from the Sefer Haftorah . As always, there will be the wonderful Men's Club Kiddush. Please be sure to attend and listen to your fellow Men's Club members lead the services. Thanks, David Ehrlich President, Men's Club Below is an important message from David Touger regarding the current conflict in Israel. Dear Congregants, As all of you are painfully aware Israel is once again fighting another battle in her constant war for Independence. Ever since the moment Israel was founded back in 1948 her Arab neighbors and militants receiving safe haven in those countries have been trying, as they say to "drive Israel into the Mediterranean Sea". Israel has fought many wars since the initial War for Independence but in actuality each one is just a continuation of the war fought in 1948. Israel was and still is fighting for its right to exist in peace. Hamas literally exists for only one purpose to kill Jews and destroy Israel. When Hamas can't kill Jews, it's perfectly willing to drive Palestinian civilians into the line of fire - old men, women and children. Hamas herds the innocent into "shelters," then draws Israeli fire on them. What is amazing however, is not only that the headline-greedy media slant their coverage against Israel but that there is support for Hamas among Jews. As president of the synagogue I receive emails everyday on the Presidential listserve from presidents of synagogues around the country who state that certain members of their synagogues have expressed outrage that the synagogue has sent out pro-Israeli mailings or added additional prayers for Israeli soldiers into their services. While our synagogue has done the same, I am glad to report that I have not received one complaint from one member of our synagogue for our pro-Israeli actions. However in an effort to further demonstrate our support for Israel and pray for peace and all of Israel's well-being the Rabbi, Cantor and the Board of the synagogue have decided to hold a special service in support of Israel next Friday night (January 23rd) at 8:15. Although it is designated on your calendar as Men's Club Shabbat, Men's Club has graciously decided to share their evening of joy with this program. During the service we will have a special speaker and we will gather to pray for the one thing we all want which is peace in the area. I ask all of you to come to this service, one to pray for Israel, two to gather information to combat the propaganda being spread by others and three to demonstrate to the world that you stand with Israel not with her enemies. Israel needs this support and our synagogue community should be and will be here to give it to her. These are very important times for Israel and for us as American Jews we must demonstrate our support for Israel so that no one can point a finger at us and say "even Jews don't support Israel so why should we". We must demonstrate to the world how important Israel is to us and that we will always be behind her. Sincerely, David Touger, President -------------- next part -------------- An HTML attachment was scrubbed... Friday night we will have an excellent speaker on the situation in Israel. To keep with that theme, Cantor Wallach will teach us a popular Israeli song for peace, "Od yavoh Shalom Aleynu". Saturday morning, I will be leading the blessing for the new month (rosh chodesh) after torah reading and the d'var torah. As has been our custom, we would like all MC participants to gather around me at the bima and we'll dance around the bima to the same tune the Cantor teaches us. See http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=vCuH3gSGCKA for a version of the song. See you on Shabbat Josh Schor . -------------- next part -------------- An HTML attachment was scrubbed...
