If we want to change that wording we should NOT use the term "PT username" because it is wrong.
First you have to register with LDraw.org. (http://www.ldraw.org/user.html)
In a second step (http://www.ldraw.org/library/tracker/ Item-Submit New Parts) you are allowed to upload files to the PT if you have signed the CA.
So I think it could sound like:
UserName is the author's LDraw username. It needs to be optional for those past authors that still don't have a username.
