With all respect to Michael, I don't think it's a good idea to start looking
to MLCAD as the standard implementation for LDraw. MLCAD has its own way of
doing things.

What would be really great is for someone to put together a fully
standards-compliant, open source, new LDraw renderer. It doesn't have to be
great, or even very useful. In fact, it would be more important for the
program to be coded simply, well-written and clearly commented than being
"day-to-day useful".

A new reference implemention would totally free ldraw.org from the grip of
LDRAW.EXE.
