Hi,

I have HP/COMPAQ Presario 2500 series Laptop running on Ubuntu 5.04. I am going to upgrade to Ubuntu 5.10 shortly. I have internal CD-ROM and would like to add external CD-RW or CD-RW/DVD-R combo drive through 5.25" external casing.

I am from India and looking for buying the 5.25" external casing on ebay.in. The seller says that it is going to work with "Windows 98SE, 2000, XP, Mac OS.9.0 and higher" but I feel that it can work with Linux as well.
The specifications are as follows:
# Aluminium casing
# Suitable for: CD-ROM, CD-RW, DVD-ROM and DVD-RW drives
# Supports: ATA 100/133
# Interface: USB 2.0, downward compatible with USB 1.1
# Plug and Play
# External power supply: AC input: 100 -240V
# Output voltage: +5V/+12V
# Dimensions: 160 x 560 x 245 mm (l x h x w)
# Supports: Windows 98SE, 2000, XP, Mac OS.9.0 and higher

My question is "Will it work in Linux".

I have also seen similar product on the net where the supplier says that it is going to work on Linux but I can't buy from them and interested in buying this item only from a supplier from India.

Thanks in advance.
