[linux-laptop] 64-bit versus 32-bit Linux laptops

At the beginning of 2005 I started to search the laptops market for a
high-performance portable machine with 2GB RAM, fastest processor,
high-resolution screen, 80 GB disk,,
modem for dial-up connection where the ethernet is not available, optical
mouse.
..
Needless to say I want a laptop running Linux possibly SuSE (my favourite
distro).
I found a company offering a 64-bit laptop very expensive but with high
performances.
No one reassured me abouut being able to run programs built on a 32-bit
machine on the 64-bit laptop. I decided to wait another couple of months.
Time has come for me to make a decision. Yesterday I revisited the websites
of the companies offering Linux laptops. To my surprise I noted that the
64-bit machine has been removed from the inventory. I wonder whether such a
laptop has been recalled because of some some technical/design problem or
just for commercial reasons.

As I'm on the verge of buying a good laptop, that should replace my 3-year
old mini-tower home computer, I'd like to get some suggestion about the
architecture and
possibly the brand name and model.
Another concern is the fast internet. My current provider is Comcast. They
inserted a new card in my home computer. What about a laptop ? Will I be
able to get Comcast
fast internet through the TV cable if I get a laptop ?

Thank you very much for your help.

Maura
