[linux-laptop] problem with mandriva LE 2005.

Hi,

I have IBM T40P on which i have recently installed Mandriva 2005. As
you have experienced, booting time is really high.
system practically halts at starting portmapper.
is there any solution to reduce this time?
I have another problem also.
I have another lap-top Panasonic CF-W2. This is also wire free
networking enabled as IBM T40P.
I want to establish wireless LAN between these two lap-tops [peer to peer]
i have mandrake 10.0 installed on Panasonic.
Could you guide me how to do it?
As I am a little non-technical person, please explain in more details.
