The Coco Nation News stories for Episode 439, November 15,2025 (Nov 8-Nov 14)
=============================================================================
Collected and Presented by L. Curtis Boyle

Special NOTES:
--------------
NOTE: We are planning to do a special “Coco 4” episode in the
future, which will included all the computers that were announced in
the 1991-1994 time frame that were supposed to be successors to the
Coco 3. We have Joel Ewy who has volunteered to show off their MM/1,
I am going to try and get my TC-9 up and running at least enough
to show it working, and Rick Ulland will show off a Delmar System
V… but we still need volunteers with TC-70’s, Kix-20 or Kix-30,
Delmar System IV, AT-306 and MM/1 B’s. Anybody still have these
machines that they would like to show off in an upcoming show? Email
me at curtisboyle at sasktel.net if you are.

For those who want to try an online BBS running on a real 512K Coco
3, you can reach Terry Trapp’s RiBBS system here (please note that
this an active development machine so the BBS occasionally goes down
when Terry is working on hardware, etc).:

Upcoming conventions/trade shows of interest to Coco people:
------------------------------------------------------------
World of Commodore is December 6-7 in Mississauga, Ontario at the
Admiral Inn. The show “warmly embrace(s) enthusiasts of all retro
computer gear, not just the Commodore computers (although the SuperPET
does have a 6809 in it and runs a version of OS-9 Level 1… making
it a cousin to the Coco in a way).

Coco 1/2/3 (and multi-platform)
-------------------------------
1) Coco Town’s latest video from about a month ago, about how NTSC
color artifacting on the Coco (and other machines) works, has gone
viral and now has over 192,000 views:
  https://www.youtube.com/@CocoTownRetro/videos

2) Brian Blake added an entry to his blog showing the 3D printed
case that he had made for the John Linville designed, Neil Blanchard
produced Sega Joypad adapter:

4) The latest Compute!’s Gazette magazine is out and is 100 pages
long. It even has an article on the Daggorath port to the Amiga that
we have been covering recently:

He also posted that is looking for a disassembly of Terry Todd’s
OS9Term program – a program for DECB to log into Coco 3 OS9 level 2
systems and support the text subset of control and escape codes. Not
just colors, cursor positioning, etc. but even overlay windows (we had
a program of the same name for the PC / DOS back in the day for work,
written in Borland Pascal, but that has since been lost as well):

Jay Mundy has posted a handdrawn schematic. This is used by both of
Jay’s games, T.H.E.M. and U.S.:

Game On news (all Coco related platforms):
==========================================
1) The Amigos (Aaron and Brent) released the latest The Coco Show
episode, reviewing the 32K RAM Coco 1/2/3 Halloween themed game
released a few months ago, called Spooks:
  https://youtu.be/d60MdaZMas4?si=gHXd7k05YtYUnqIL
They also released raw game footage with no commentary of the game:
  https://youtu.be/oBGJK5odbzM?si=1CO_W-aLEyjWQYWG

the Fujinet enabled Battleship game, and have posted a video showing

4) Jim Gerrie released an alpha version of Dual Alien for the MC-10,
ported from the NEC PC-6001. This is compiled using Greg Dionne’s
MCBASDIC compiler for extra speed. If I understand the concept right,
it has dual “screens” that with the player showing up in both
(like Grabber?):

5) Gregok1973 on YouTube released a gameplay video of a BASIC Coco
port of the Atari 2600 classic Adventure, done in SG4 graphics:

6) Pere Serrat released the latest version (38T9M) of Allan Turvey’s
Asteroids RX (originally for the Spectrum). Allen himself released
version L not too long ago for free. Pere’s version adds 6309
support and support for the Supersprite FM+ board and it’s AY sound
chip. Both Dragon and Coco versions have been released to support the
extra hardware. You can get it now at the World of Dragon forums,
but it has been uploaded to the Color Computer Archive as well and
should be available there soon as well:

7) Nick Marentes has released version 1.1 of his new Pinball game,
fixing an issue where (rarely) a ball would get stuck:

https://www.facebook.com/groups/2359462640/?multi_permalinks=10163471276747641&hoisted_section_header_type=recently_seen

people can compete both on scores and between 8 bit platforms). This
now includes Fujizee, 5 Card Stud and Battleship:
  https://www.facebook.com/groups/2359462640/posts/10163455208002641/

10) The Geek Orthodox channel on YouTubek which has a priest as a host,
covers the game Stellar Empires from Chromasette on the Coco in his
latest episode (#21). This was a personal favourite of mine, and I
actually made a modified version adding features that unfortunately
now appears to be lost. I should also mention that the host lives in
BC – maybe Ken can set up an interview?. He has covered the Coco
before in some of his previous episodes as well:
