The best thing about this setup is that i can use it cross platform with my old computers. i am using the single linux box to act as a telnet server and email client for my coco3, coleco adam, and PET computers. i can have all 3 connected at the same time

Yes. the coco 3 is using an ESP8266 wifi modem. the coco and VTERM just treat it as a standard Hayes modem. I just go into terminal mode and telnet to my homes IP . That remotely tethers me to my linux laptop.

How is the Coco3 accessing Wifi using vterm? Do you have a Wifi modem on
the Coco3?
