I should not care, but since this group is archived, I think it warrants
clarity.

I think you're missing the point.

My points were:

  * People currently define the Becker Port (or Becker/Boise port) as
the set of IO registers at $ff41/42.  The port uses the DriveWire
protocol.  (I am glad that Gary now supports an actual FDC set of
registers and silently converts them to Drivewire on the backend,
but I don't think anyone would call the FDC registers the "Becker Port")
  * The original poster was envisioning that someone create a Becker
Port implementation for a real Coco
  * I replied with some assertions as to why I think folks hesitate to
    create one.
  * MarkO attempted to better focus the need
  * I replied with a bunch of reasons why it will take the same amount
of effort to just implement the FDC or Glenside IDE registers hooked
to a small esp8266, and not even need to implement the Becker Port

So, in effect, regardless of what one calls the IO $ff41/$42 registers,
I continue to disagree with the value of implementing that functionality
over implementing the actual FDC registers and tying them to an esp8266.

Jim
