Well, the VCC emulator is free and emulates a Coco3. You don't need Drivewire as you can mount a 
hard drive image (.vhd) on the VCC but for further flexibility can also use VCC with Drivewire. A 
.vhd will give you at least 256 "floppy" disks plus a large OS-9 partition. You can even expand a 
.vhd for additional floppy partitions of 256 disks each.

so you have all kinds of programs readily available.

Try that for a while on your PC, and then decide whether you need to obtain a Coco3, added memory, 
and a multi-pak in which to mount some of the newest third party Coco enhancements. You don't need 
to rush into anything.
