A: if the warranty sticker is intact, it is doubtful it has been upgraded.

B: I don't have the link here, but there is a short program for the CoCo 
3 that tests the addresses involved in the upgrade.

C: looking inside the newer MPIs had a piggybacked chip with extra 
(usually wirewrap) wires.
