[Coco] Radio shack layoffs, store closing, etc... Goodbye, and thanks for the memories?

Taking into account that Radio Shack was a parts supplier for ham operators, they thrived on this and then slowly started to go downhill when the market changed, but they did not.
My first venture into Radio was when they started selling the TRS 80 Model I. It was a good place to go. First the ham operators did not continue to expand in numbers enough to sustain RS' growth, then personal computers were gradually replaced by IBM and Apple computers then everything started to go mobile.
RS gradually changed from being a components supplier, to being a computer supplier then to being a distributor.

The stores seemed to change, for the worst, when they started to concentrate on selling cell phones and accessories instead of LEDS and switchs ect

Wow! That's unbelievable.
Yeah it used to be a place my dad and I went to during the late 80s and early 90s and the stores were always crowded with people buying computers, parts and friendly talking about shared interests. RS was an American icon for electronics and they just sort of lost contact with how to adapt to world changes of retail and delivering what customers wanted at reasonable prices. It's sad, but I too believe RS will be gone soon.

During my time at Radio Shack (88-91?) they had over 7000 stores in the US.
