For anyone following this.....

The key to getting the floppies working from the aforementioned scenario 
is to change the disk image in the sdc
that you booted from.  Minor inconvenience.  I also learned what you all 
probably know is that you can use
backup command to copy real floppies to .dsk images.

I will stay out of your hair for a while now.
