Maybe I missed something, but if you have a 1000TX, that is not an EX or HX that uses the "plus" boards, but is a 286 version of the 1000SX desktop.
Your restriction, however, is that the DMA in the ISA bus in the 1000SX and TX is restricted to 8-bit transfers. 
I know there's been at least a couple of 8-bit ISA IDE adapters created in the past few years,and you can also try to hunt down an 8-bit SCSI adapter and use something attached there.

Finding tandy "plus" expansion boards is nearly impossible as far as I 
can tell.  I have an HX with no hard drive, I ended up creating a dos 
6.22 boot disk, on which were the drivers for my parallel interface ZIP 
drive.  This gave me a 100MB zip drive to load/save from.  A regular PC 
also had a zip drive, allowing me to walk the disk back and forth and 
swap files as needed.  Could be you can still find Zip 100 out on eBay.  
Also made it work with my Tandy 1400 "laptop."
