The Arduinos that I have bought use the Ch340 chip. So far so good! The eBay listing usually mention the chipset used.

I have purchased from K Bell Enterprises on eBay many times. They are in Missouri, i think:

They do not look like they have UNO in stock right now, though. :(. I’ve used them for LED strips and power supplies, and misc electronics stuff.
There are other USA shippers that seem to just buy a bunch of $3 Arduino clones from China, the resell them at a slight markup so you still get them cheap without the wait.
Watch out for Arduino that don’t use FTDI chipset for serial. There are many cheap ones that use a CN something part, which requires special drives to work on a Mac or PC. FTDI drivers are built in to the OS and far more universal. The CN driver I had to install on Mac was from some random China site, buyer beware, and didn’t work for me, so I found an open source version for Mac that worked better.
