In Ext. ADOS-3, the RTC does several things. The most important one
is that files have a date and time attached in the directory. Also,
LLIST printouts have a date heading. And there is a function DATE$
that can be called from Basic so that Basic programs can know the date
and time and print it out where desired.
Even without the RTC, Ext. ADOS-3 supports all this, except that only
the date, not the time, is available and must be entered at power-up.
