[Coco] more that one shell from an external terminal(update)

George, Basic09 has now been optimized for the 6309 :-)
The disk images are in the link I sent.

I'm not sure if runb was optimized, as that would be where any speedup would be at runtime, but I know Basic09 itself was optimize (both versions are available)
[Edit] Just checked the repo and runb WAS optimized.

The real thing about NitrOS9 is that a ton of old "standing bugs" were fixed, all the old patches are already there, code was optimized for speed, and the availability of drivers for just about any RBF drive system you will be likely to run and a few you didn't know you could run.

My Coco 3 runs NitrOS9 with 1 meg memory, Eagle AT keyboard interface, cooling fan, MPI, FD-502 controller (just for the HDBDOS rom, no drives connected), a Glenside IDE w/2x4gig partitions (and 1 HDBDOS partition w/256 drives), DW4 w/4x128meg drives (I have an 8x128meg boot I use occassionally), MIDI pak, Orch90 pak, DW4 MIDI, PC terminals, all through a CM-8 monitor.

I turn on my system, it auto boots into NitrOS9 after 15 secs without key input (in case I want run something in RSDOS), and opens a terminal window in case I'm working from the PC. At least 2 VHDs are "synced" in DW4 so they can be accessed by both the Coco and VCC instances of DW4, so they can share files.
I just wish I'd had a system like this back in the Coco's "haydays"...

  Before I had failures, I had good communications between a PC and

of the cocos. From that coco, I used "sneaker net" for transferring

to and from the CNC coco. So having a way to backup all the files 
never was an
issue but I'm sure DW4 can make that a lot faster.  I never 
have been in a
hurry for anything done on any computer. Those things are 
all faster than I am.
Even backing up a hard drive on a Coco to this PC 
took a long time but I've
always got other things that I need to do 
while that's taking place.

denigrating NitrOS9 but the actual speed difference, even if 
installing a 6309
chip in the CNC coco really would not be a noticeable 
difference without using
a stop watch. However, the extra speed with DW4 
is a bit attractive and there
would be no need for a larger cabinet to 
allow another card for RS232 port/s.

Several years ago, I tried NitrOS9 and didn't like it, not realizing 
it was the
Shell I didn't like. So, when I get the "Main" Coco working 
again, I'll
download and transfer everything needed to start over with 
NitrOS9.
   The
things that excites be about NitrOS-9 is the use of DW4. With 
that, I can
network both Cocos to this PC, the use of the newer printer 
and easier access
to files and eliminating the 3 port com board for the 
"Main" Coco I built many
years ago. That alone excites me enough to make 
the transition.
  I'll still
keep the "Main" coco for it's own hard drive, the 3.5 and 
5.25 floppies for a
secondary or primary copy of everything. You just 
can't have enough backup.

Since Basic09 has never been optimized for the 6309 and NitrOS-9 and 
most all
of what I do is in Basic09, I really don't expect much 
difference...but...
we'll see.

Thanks for the links, guys! These will make things a LOT simpler,
later. 
Once the stuff I've ordered shipped from China via "slow boat", I can

jump on the "Main" Coco. Then "It's ON".
