That sounds like a plausible explanation. The header to the previous message
was 4,867 characters and the message was 3,235 characters. So anything more
than about 8,100 characters (which Squirrel Mail here calls '9K') has got to
be added from somewhere else.

So I saved the message as an RTF file (using OpenOffice) and it bulked it
right up to -- violà! -- 13K.
