[Coco] Rusty ole FD-501

You are describing the Side 1 problem that John found and fixed. (I thought so.)

But I found a message from 2005 giving the same method needed for John's Retrieve as you describe so maybe he did not fix it.

I remember that I needed to format disks on my CoCo not my PC.

And I remember needing to convert my 80T 2S OS-9 disks to two single sided disks. But then when I started using OS9 as it would handle both sides. But not bootable disks and the latest OS9 version was needed. (Toolshed was not invented at that time.)

I am glad that you are using Windows 98 SE on an old computer. I pity those using Windows 10, the only input is the New York cabby salute.

> "a 'glitch' in Jeff's RETRIEVE.EXE"

YES for sure, but the same for John's???

> If Side 0 never has issues, then why does side 1.

That only John really knows unless I find his very old post saying what was wrong.

I will be interesting if Jeff responds.

If I DSKINI the floppy in the CoCo Drive, his RETRIEVE utility can't access it. It work's fine for Side 0, but NOT Side 1. The work-around has been to use his DSKINI on the PC side to format the disk. Then, no matter what the CoCo writes to the disk (so long as it's not a format operation) then it will RETRIEVE ok on the PC Side.

>> Unfortunately the older version (v1.3) didn’t even attempt to support accessing both sides of the floppy so that is kinda going backwards for me. I did find a the assembly source of the old version and it almost looks like a re-write of the whole thing from 1.3 to the current 1.6? I combed the code looking for something I could change and experiment with but everything I tried either caused no effect at all or chaos.

While the work-around does make the current version fully functional, it can still remain an annoyance when trying to RETRIEVE a diskette that was never DSKINI'd by his utility.
