I ended up copying the OS-9 disks under OS-9, so it handles 35, 40, 42 tracks just fine.
For RS-DOS, I may have missed some. I only had one disk clearly marked as 40 track DS (each side appearing as its own drive), but I find several disks with 40TRACKS.BAS on them. Those, most likely, I lost data on doing a 35-track backup IF they had data exceeding 35 tracks worth.
BUT, the plan would be to put RS-DOS in 40 track mode with the patches, and try to back everything up to 40. My sector-by-sector copy would just start failing after track 35 so no harm would be done. I suppose I could even make it fail if track 36 started out unreadable, but that would risk disks that actually had data past track 35 that “just happened’ to have a sector error at the start of track 36.
If I had it to do over, I would have taken that approach.
Question: Does anyone know if the OS-9 “rsdos” command supports 40-track DECB disks? I used that from OS-9 to just pull the files off my identified 40 track disk but wonder if I got all the files. Hopefully it just follows whatever granule the directory says, and should work.
