I tried that. The website that would let me do that refuses to register my 
laptop and tells me that my service code is invalid.

You DO know, with Dell, you have access to download ALL the pre-loaded 
software.
Go to the Dell.com support site, go to downloads, and there's links there 
for it.

This way you can selectively install what you do and do not want from the 
preload.
