[Coco] keyboard

If I'm going to pay more than Cloud-9's adapter costs, I'd rather buy Mark's 
adapter, support a good Coco business and have my choice of keyboards (I 
have over 20 keyboards here that will work with it anyway).

If someone can make new mylars for a few bucks so I can fix existing 
keyboards that will fit in the case and preserve the look of my Cocos, I'm 
all for that.

I thought about making replacement keyboards last year after seeing these 
keyboards Mike Willegal made for his Apple I clone, the Mimeo I -

He charged $75.00 each for the PC board in 10 unit batches, and you had to 
find a suitable Apple ][ / ][+ keyboard to take apart for the keyswitches, 
and then find a keyboard controller which wouldn't be a problem in the case 
of a Coco.

The economics aren't there to sell that many keyboards into what's left of 
the Coco market. I'd bet the PS/2 adapter is far from Mark's hottest seller. 
But, that is a much better solution than an expensive custom built keyboard.

I was thinking sorta the same thing.  If you are going to make a brand new 
one,  you could make an upgraded one like the HJL-57 keyboard or similar.

Why not put the effort to design a real keyboard with cherry keys for the 
coco's. The PCB would be the cost I guess. The keys are still around from 
1.5 to 3.0 $ a piece.

The coco 3 has 57 keys so that would be 85 to 171.
I guess the PCB would be 25 to 35, makes a quick estimate of 171 + 35 = 201.

Now this sounds a lot but this is when you build a proto type. If keys are 
bought by the 3000 and that would make 50 boards with 60 keys ( 3 spare not 
decoded ), my guess is that it would come down 50%.

100 $ for a solid board  is not so exaggerated my opinion.

Of course the PS2 AT converters from Dana and/or cloud 9 are still cheaper 
and have some added features.

I will get in to this and make some real calculations, see if that would 
lead into something reasonable.
