Pretty sure you can do a single-user bootup and reset the password.
That era, we're probably talking a SunOS variant (4.1 or so) vs the later Solaris variations.

I might have a SUnOS 4.1.3UB3 CD around somewhere... But you should be able to single-user boot via the console/ROM.
I think most if us acquired our Suns (back then) without the root password :)

Did you now you could simply burn a cdrom with the OS and reset the
password? Or reinstall it from scratch? After that you could add at least
