[Coco] Help loading cassette data on a CoCo 2

P.S. I just checked out the January post you linked to. I have a TAPEUTIL.BIN utility that was made to transfer any file from a diskette to a cassette. If you like I could try this method of producing a .WAV file for you.

Well it could be several things. I use several modern devices to 'emulate' a tape recorder. These include a netbook, laptop, SoundBlaster Extigy (External Sound device), MiniDISC, and a newly acquired Sony PCM-M10 linear PCM recorder... EVERY ONE HAS TO BE SET DIFFERENTLY! (Which I've kept notes on optimum settings)

These PLAYBACK points may help you some ..

	* The CoCo seems to like 'louder' volumes...
Volume too low = white 'S' never flashes or barely flashes
Volume too high = white/black 'S' flashes at normal rate but quick to error out.

	* Your playback device must not 'Enhance' the audio!! Volume control is good, but turn off 'Bass Boost', Equalizer, Dolby NR, etc. All of these will distort the original sound, which may make it more pleasant to your ears, but not to the CoCo.

If you like, you could send the resulting .WAV and I could try to play it back on something to see how it does. If I can get it to load reliable so should you be able to.

Hi,

So I have a .cas file and have used xroar to convert it to a .wav using the instructions at

http://comments.gmane.org/gmane.comp.hardware.tandy.coco/75033

xroar -load Pooyan.cas -tape-rewrite -tape-write Pooyan.wav (then type CLOADM in the emulator, the WAV file will be written as it loads the CAS file)

I put the WAV file on my phone, typed CLOADM on the CoCo, and started playback with the black connector in the phone's headset jack.

I seemed to find the right volume range, but had trouble -

When I type CLOADM, an S appears in the upper-left corner.

At a certain volume, when I start playback, the S turns black but it stays that way and never loads the file.

At a slightly different volume, the S turns black, but then after a few seconds, I get an I/O error.

At all other volumes, the S never turns black.

Thoughts?

John
